Chia-Ying Lee

Chia-Ying graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a bachelor of science in Neuroscience and Ecology, Evolutionary Biology. She is interested in global medicine, virtual and simulation medicine, and medical education.

Chia-Ying was born in Taiwan and immigrated to the United States to join the rest of her family. Being a first generation immigrant without knowing English, she had a difficult time navigating the medical and educational systems. However, it was through those challenges that sparked her interest in international medicine and education. As an undergraduate, she worked as a genetic modified study instructor, mentoring small groups of students and leading discussion sessions. She was also a tutor for various biology subjects for the STEM Diversity program at her school. Later on she worked as a teaching assistant for the human anatomy course, leading lab and dissection sessions for students. In addition to her contributions as an educational instructor, she has also worked as an immunology and radiology researcher, residential counselor, EMT, and medical interpreter.

In her free time, Chia-Ying enjoys spending time with her family, reading a good book, writing, and exploring new cultures. She enjoys traveling while trying different cuisines from different cultures and adding to her coin collection. In her spare time, she also likes the get into a friendly badminton, tennis, or basketball match with her family and friends. Chia-Ying is looking forward to participate in the Global Health Fellow Program to explore the different perspectives of medicine, share her experiences with the American and Taiwanese health system, and to broaden her medical horizon.
